Co-Diovan film-coated tablets contain two active ingredients known as Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. These ingredients work together to manage high blood pressure (hypertension). It combines two medications: Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide. Valsartan is classified as an ARB blocker that targets angiotensin II, while Hydrochlorothiazide acts on the distal convoluted tubules to block the transport of sodium chloride. This action results in increased urine output, which helps lower blood pressure.
Valsartan is part of a category of drugs known as “angiotensin II receptor antagonists,” which aid in managing high blood pressure. Angiotensin II is a naturally occurring substance that constricts blood vessels, leading to elevated blood pressure. Valsartan counteracts the effects of angiotensin II, resulting in relaxed blood vessels and reduced blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to a class of medications called thiazide diuretics (commonly referred to as “water tablets”). It increases the excretion of urine, contributing to lower blood pressure.
Co-Diovan is indicated for the treatment of high blood pressure that is insufficiently managed by a single medication alone.
Elevated blood pressure adds strain to the heart and blood vessels. If left untreated, it may lead to damage in the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, potentially resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure also raises the likelihood of heart attacks. Bringing your blood pressure down to normal levels reduces the chances of developing these complications.
